"and up top, one bee sting"

Wow. What happened? Let me tell you...NAY! Let me show you.

Saturday was all work w/ zero play, but Sunday made up for it w/ my first double workout on the schedule. 1:40 then 40 min six hours later. I almost did an audible scoff to myself, but now it's Monday morning and I'm sore as balls.

I thought about how great this blog post would be with pictures, but unfortunately I don't run w/ a camera. Then I thought about using my mad paint skillz to illustrate the day, but work has robbed me of any desire to spend more time than I need to in front of the computer...my solution? google images! First image that pops up using the search criteria in quotes.

So my first run started off a bit later than I wanted, but I figure the overcast would save me front any summer heat. At about 9AM I was out the front door and headed towards the nearby "Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve"

My 10x9min zone 2 + 1min Zone 3 started off Okay enough, but it's apparently been a while since I've been running those trails and it was a lot hillier than I remembered. at the time, it felt almost insurmountable, but I reminded myself that it aint about how fast I got there, aint about what's waiting on the other side. "It's the climb."

Well Miley, there was something waiting on the other side of those hills. Something struck my face on one of the decents and it felt like someone threw a rock at me. I brushed it off, but the sting lingered. That's when I realized I was struck by a "Killer Bee"!

I wasn't sure what to do. I was tired and I got stung in the EYE by a freaking bee. Four miles left and the sun decided to make an appearance. Cool. Thanks, Sun. Trying to maintain my zones in this state was hard. I was disoriented. Not really seeing everything around me I almost stepped on a "rattle snake"

I narrowly avoided it mid stride, however, and was almost home. or so I thought. Not taking into account the hills and other factors (i.e. a bee stinging me in my freaking EYE) that would slow me down on the back end, I ended up going out too far by the time my 10th repeat was complete. I was two miles from home and essentially "LOST"

I eventually made it home and found my wife and kid there waiting for me. I wasn't expecting them, but apparently the wife read the evite wrong. This was a pleasant surprise as I was able to nap w/ Zoey. she insists on being the little spoon.

Six hours later I took my new 310xt out for a spin. noticably bigger and heavier on my wrist, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. One of the first things I noticed was how fast it picked up signal. Awesome. Thanks, Dad!

The 40 minute run was brutal w/ tired legs. I went out towards Bird Rock from work, where there would surely be no bees, but seeing all the people relaxing and enjoying their Sunday with their family and friends stung my eyes just as bad.
