Found out two very important things today. 1) My Max Heart Rate & 2) I overstride.
With my HRM on I ran a 400 at 80%, a 800 at 70%, a 400 at 90% and finally a 400 at all out effort. 400s and 800s sound short, but I've never really ran one at 'all out effort' before. In a word, it was hard. During the last 400, the first 200 M were hard. Coming around the second turn it was extremely uncomfortable and by the last 100 M was flat out awkward. My arms pumping like crazy, my breathing was heavy and my feet felt like they didn't know what to do next. It's because they didn't. It was weird, but it's supposed to get easier.
Over-striding. I know how it's supposed to look, I guess I never realized I was so bad at it. Ideally, your feet are supposed to land directly under you. My feet land in front of me. This causes two problems, it's inefficient in that there's a lot of wasted energ and there's too much shock my legs take on. This is huge and probably a bad habit I've developed over the last 2 years.
I'm looking forward to the coming months. I'm ready to work.
Super easy 40 minute run w/ Zoey and Jg on Saturday and 1 hour ez spin on Monday. lots of father day activities in between.
