Did the blog title confuse you? If so, you probably have never run down La Jolla Boulevard just after 5pm on a weekday.
Yesterday, I went out on a seemingly harmless 40 minute run with a focus on 'active speed'. The active speed part entailed me running 'super fast' for 40 seconds w/ 1:20 walking between the 10 sets. I was surprised with how much ground I was able to cover It's difficult finding an uninterrupted stretch of road, without intersections, signal lights or even foot traffic to slow you down.
Passing through these intersections at speed was scary. I obviously looked before I crossed, but I realized if I were to have to stop abruptly, I wouldn't have been able to. The fact that the divers are generally older, doesn't help much either. I had to actually jump out of the way of an elderly operated Mercedes, imagine the Black Mamba jumping over an Ashton Martin (okay, nothing at all like that). It was a stressful run, but I got home okay.
Be safe runners. I approach running in high traffic areas like I do riding my motorcycle or even bicycle, assume they don't see you.
